Short crime novel, 2nd edition
For the second consecutive year, Quais du polar and the Police Nationale have joined forces to organise a short story competition for secondary school pupils: the Court Polar prize. Aimed at 15 to 18-year-olds, this free competition seeks to promote the creative talents of the younger generation in the field of French-language literature and to promote the crime fiction genre.
Désignées par un jury de professionnels (composé de représentants de Quais du Polar, de criminologues, d’auteurs, de YouTubeurs spécialisés dans le True Crime, de journalistes, de scénaristes et d’éditeurs), les The winning short stories will be promoted on the social media accounts of the French National Police and Quais du Polar. The winners will also receive a selection of crime novels and the chance to experience exclusive immersions in prestigious departments of the institution, such as the service national de la police scientifique or the RAID.
Candidates may compete in only one of the following categories:
• The ‘individual’ category will reward a ‘short crime novel’ written by a single candidate.
• The ‘collective work’ category will reward a ‘short crime novel’ written by several candidates.
THE RULES
- The short story should be between 5 and 10 pages long.
- The short story should feature a police officer and be full of suspense and twists and turns.
- The text may be written individually or in groups.
- The text must be written in French.
- The text must not be of a nature that disparages the national police force or contain insulting or defamatory remarks about the institution.
- The text must be apolitical and must not promote racism, anti-Semitism or hatred of minorities of any kind.

PRACTICAL DETAILS
- 20 January 2026 (before midnight): deadline for submitting the registration form to courtpolar@interieur.gouv.fr
- 30 January 2026 (before midnight): deadline for submitting news items
- March 2026: deliberation by the jury and notification of the results to the winners so that they can organise their attendance at the festival
- 3–5 April 2026: Quais du polar festival in Lyon and awards ceremony on Friday 3 April.
